Live demo · The American Yawp Companion
In the full companion, every chapter of The American Yawp opens into five stations. Here you'll do two of them — a reading check and a primary-source analysis — then see exactly where your work lands for the teacher.
Station 1 of 5 · Reading Check
Three questions on Colonial Society. Pick an answer and it's graded the moment you choose — just like your students will see.
Station 2 of 5 · Source Analysis
A real primary source from the Great Awakening. Read it, then answer the sourcing prompts — purpose first, then historical use.
Primary Source · Sermon
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God
Jonathan Edwards · preached at Enfield, Connecticut · 1741
“The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked: his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire.
You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about it… and you have no interest in any Mediator, nothing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing to keep off the flames of wrath.”
In the full companion, image sources open with pinch-to-zoom — students can read a document's smallest handwriting.
Chapter submitted
That's the whole point of the companion. Students play the chapter; their answers write themselves into your Google Sheet, already scored, ready for the grading cockpit.
0/3 on the reading check · 0/2 on source analysis.
Still ahead in the full chapter:
Key Terms & review games, a chapter writing prompt, translate & read-aloud — three more stations, all logged the same way.
No collecting, no copying — every answer wrote its own row, already scored. You own all of it.
Grading cockpit — Chapter 4, one period in real time
The American Yawp Companion turns all 15 chapters of Volume 1 into this exact loop — reading checks, sources, review games, and writing, all auto-graded into your Google Sheet. AP & Regular built in. No accounts, no apps.
